(to visit the original article click here)Now, I am sure some of my coursemates will agree or disagree that whatever path you choose has its pro’s and con’s, whether you work, study or teach is up to you – but I think they will all agree with me when I say it is hard. Whatever you choose will not be easy. I just think it is unfair to ask us to do any sort of study while we are abroad. It is hard enough trying to find an apartment, open a bank account, learn a new profession/study/teach and adapt to a new culture, without having to worry about being assessed on it all! It’s an added concern to what can be a very daunting Year Abroad. I feel 400 EUR is too little to be paid per month, and that working 40 hours a week in a job that I am no expert in, in my third language, is really testing at 20 years old. When I get home the first thing I want to do is crash onto the sofa, eat and watch bad TV. The last thing I want to do is work on my Special Study – I know we probably should be assessed. But really? I mean, do we really need to be assessed? Is the Year Abroad not a huge enough challenge culturally, mentally, Physically and academically that we need to be further examined on whether we can write a 5000 word essay that counts for 6% of our degree? I don’t think so, but to be honest, I am just going to stop moaning and get on with researching my special study, the more I bitch about it isn’t going to make it go away, so I’ll just get on with it.
